The course is suitable for those with a responsibility for the installation, operation and maintenance of abrasive wheels in accordance with the relevant regulations. The course is highly participative with emphasis on the practical element of the training . Health & Safety Risk Assessments

The irish legislation covering abrasive wheel in the workplace is within the safety, health and welfare at work (general application) regulations 2007 to 2016. This legislation, referred to as concerning the use of abrasive wheels in the workplace 2007 to 2016, outlines the duties of the employer including the requirement to avoid using abrasive wheels where possible, to carry out risk assessments and to reduce the risk of abrasive wheel injuries to employees by implementing appropriate controls. We have outlined some of the key features of the general application regulations as they apply to the use of abrasive wheels.

The course is designed for: an employer who appoints a person to be competent in the mounting of abrasive wheels someone who has used an abrasive wheel appliance in their own working environment and who needs to be aware of the operating and mounting of grinding wheels, and require a knowledge of, or familiarisation with the regulations. The training course has been designed and structured to comply with the requirements of the provisions and use of work equipment regulations 1998 (puwer 1998) and the health and safety executive publication ‘safety in the use of abrasive wheels’ (hsg17). On completion of the course, the learner will have gained the knowledge required to mount an abrasive wheels in a safe environment, supported by the knowledge of legal requirements under provisions and use of work equipment 1998 (puwer).

This course is about the selection and mounting of abrasive wheels and not the safe use of the equipment.
