Wycinanki: Polish Paper Cuts Hardcover – 1 May 1994
I’m polish and wycinanki (polish paper cut design) is
part
of my unique mixed media style. I love the simple geometric designs i get when i cut my own artist paper.
These pieces are created with paper cuts and acrylic paint on a birch wood panel. The natural color of the wood shows through the acrylic paints and on the unpainted sides. Below are few of my mixed media pieces using my wycinanki paper cuts. I am so pleased to announce that i’ve opened my own online store. It’s been a slow work in progress but i’m open for business!
i am continuing to add art journals and art so please visit often.
Sorry, there was a problem.

Generations of west springfield school children have benefited from having her as their art teacher. Wycinanki are believed to have originated with polish peasants. Farm women hung sheep skins over the window openings of their farmhouses as a way of keeping out the elements. In order to let in light and air, they used sheep shears to snip small openings in the skins. Like many folk arts, the practice was both functional and decorative. At some point, polish women transferred their designs to paper.
Paper cutting (polish wycinanki) is a tradition based on polish folklore and has its roots in rural areas of poland where field workers started to develop their own art. In contrast to urban areas, this rural expression was connected with life in the villages and the surrounding countryside. Therefore it is common in wycinanki to find motifs representing trees, flowers or animals, and also patterns characterized by their abstract and geometrical shapes. Let us take a look at a few examples to give you a better insight into the art of wycinanki: 1. Leluja (the tree of life): usually made in one colour.
